Shopee Taiwan’s 3rd Southeast Asian Second Generation Scholarship Program Enriches Taiwan’s Multiculturalism

Taiwan, August 18, 2025 - Shopee Taiwan recently hosted the graduation ceremony for the 3rd “Southeast Asian Second-Generation Scholarship Empowerment Program.” Twenty-seven second-generation immigrant awardees from universities across Taiwan completed a six-month journey of courses and project training, showcasing remarkable growth and social engagement. Since 2022, Shopee has supported second-generation immigrant students with scholarships and training opportunities, helping them contribute fresh vitality to Taiwan’s multicultural landscape.

This year’s program featured a two-day camp and training in integrated marketing, live-streaming, innovation, and project management, fostering cross-campus collaboration. Awardees highlighted the inspiring lecturers and teamwork, which broadened their horizons and sparked new ideas.

The second-generation students combined their cultural backgrounds with program learnings to actively promote cultural exchange and strengthen identity. Awardee Yu-Chi Chang, whose family runs a restaurant, grew up connecting with her mother’s homeland of Vietnam through food. Together with her teammates, she launched the “Taste of Vietnam Workshop,” where participants explored Vietnamese culture through cuisine and handicrafts. Chang shared that some attendees were even inspired to start learning Vietnamese because of the workshop, and she believes this spark of interest will continue to spread, fostering cultural integration in Taiwan.

Awardee Cheng-En Yu, who has both Taiwanese Indigenous and Filipino heritage, organized the “Feel at Home Music Exchange.” Through music and storytelling, he reflected on his journey of embracing a multicultural identity. He expressed hope that the initiative would help more people recognize and appreciate the unique value of second-generation youth in Taiwan, while encouraging peers to take pride in their diverse cultural backgrounds.

Chun-Huang Liao, Senior Corporate Brand Director at Shopee Taiwan, noted that awardees demonstrated remarkable learning, teamwork, and social commitment throughout the six-month training, gradually turning ideas into practice and showcasing the inclusiveness and initiative of Taiwan’s second generation. She emphasized that Shopee is dedicated to nurturing local talent and continues to support career growth and entrepreneurship through diverse platforms such as the Shopee Summer Internship Program, Sea Global Management Associate Program, and “Shopee University” e-commerce training platform.
