Monee Indonesia Reinforces Commitment to Financial Inclusion through Kelas TUNAI Program in Central Lombok and Maros

Central Lombok, August 29, 2025 - Monee Indonesia (through ShopeePay and SeaBank), in collaboration with Integrated Business Service Center – Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (PLUT KUMKM), successfully held the continuation of the Kelas TUNAI program in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, and Maros, South Sulawesi. More than 80 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) actively participated in the training, which covered practical financial literacy topics such as the use of digital payments and QRIS, business bookkeeping, and access to responsible financing.

With participants from diverse business backgrounds, Kelas TUNAI serves as a shared learning space that helps MSMEs strengthen their financial knowledge and become more connected to Indonesia’s growing digital financial ecosystem.

Empowering MSMEs in Lombok Tengah and Maros
In Central Lombok, which is home to more than 64,000 micro enterprises, the Kelas TUNAI program addressed the urgent need for accessible financing and digital payment infrastructure. The local MSMEs came from various sectors, ranging from food producers to artisans, reflecting the region’s strong entrepreneurial spirit.

During participant interviews, the diverse backgrounds of MSMEs became evident. Ibu Yosi from Ombak Food, for example, is already familiar with digital products and has even won national-level competitions, while Ibu Diana from Holisa Herbal had only just begun planning to open her Shopee store after attending the program. These differences highlighted the unique value of Kelas TUNAI as a program that reaches MSMEs who are already established while also encouraging newcomers to grow together.

Meanwhile, in Maros, where over 30,000 MSMEs operate with a majority in the culinary sector, participants benefited from financial literacy training designed to encourage diversification and sustainable growth. Post-session evaluations recorded a 32% increase in financial literacy scores, underscoring the program’s tangible impact.

Among the participants were inspiring entrepreneurs such as Ibu Kasma, a self-taught wire-wool craftsman who turned her hobby into a source of household income, and Ibu Ina, who helps local coffee farmers increase product value through training, branding, and research collaborations.

Building a Stronger Digital Financial Ecosystem
ShopeePay and SeaBank emphasized that initiatives like Kelas TUNAI are aligned with the Indonesian Payment System Blueprint (BSPI) 2025-2030, which envisions a digital payment system that is fast, easy, cheap, safe, and reliable.

Eka Nilam Dari (Lala), President Director of ShopeePay, said, “ShopeePay is committed to empowering MSMEs by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in the digital era. Through programs like Kelas TUNAI, we aim to not only strengthen financial literacy but also expand MSMEs’ access to digital payments, bookkeeping solutions, and financing options. By doing so, we help them scale their businesses, contribute to local economies, and seize opportunities in both national and global markets.”

Junedy Liu, Vice President Director of SeaBank Indonesia, said, "At SeaBank, we focus on serving the underserved, including MSMEs that still lack access to financial services. But access alone is not enough, it must be accompanied by financial literacy so they can utilize financial products & services wisely. Kelas TUNAI is one of the ways we make this happen, helping MSMEs not only connect to digital payments but also benefit from savings, financing, and other solutions to grow stronger and more resilient.”

Towards Inclusive Financial Literacy
Indonesia’s MSMEs contribute over 60% of GDP and absorb nearly 97% of the workforce according to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in 2025. Yet only 30% of MSMEs currently have access to formal financial services according to OJK data from 2022 to 2023.

By bridging these gaps, ShopeePay and SeaBank reaffirm their mission to accelerate financial inclusion. Beyond training, the program also highlights the role of digital payments in helping MSMEs reach wider markets, maintain transparent bookkeeping, and unlock new opportunities for growth.
