Bandung, June 17, 2025 – Garena officially launched its education and awareness initiative “Garena Good Game in School” with its first event held at SMK Pusdikhubad Cimahi in West Java on June 17, 2025. The initiative is part of Garena’s broader commitment to building a safe, positive, and responsible gaming ecosystem, particularly for Indonesia’s younger generation.
The program is also part of Garena’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its identity as a Good Game Company—a holistic commitment to delivering the full meaning of ‘Good Game’ in every aspect: fun, safe, balanced, and value-driven, both in and beyond the game.
The event featured a talk show titled “Promoting Positive Gaming for the Young Generation”, with speakers from diverse backgrounds, including Mischa Indah Mariska, M.Psi., Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychologist; Wijaya Nugroho, Head of Business Development, Esports & Community Garena Indonesia; Budi Laswardi, S.Pd. Fis, Headmaster at SMK Pusdikhubad Cimahi; and Ronny Patria, S.S.Kom., S.T., M.Pd., Vice Principal for Curriculum Affairs at SMK Pusdikhubad Cimahi.
“We recognize the vital role of parents, teachers, and schools in supporting students to enjoy gaming in a healthy and responsible way. Through this program, we aim to encourage open and constructive dialogue both at school and at home,” said Wijaya Nugroho, Head of Business Development, Esports & Community Garena Indonesia.
Mischa Indah Mariska, M.Psi., highlighted the need for collaborative guidance in raising children in today’s digital era. “Games are not just entertainment—they can be powerful tools for learning, development, and self-regulation. What children need is open, stigma-free guidance to help them grow with balance and responsibility,” she said.
Budi Laswardi also expressed his appreciation for the initiative. “We fully support this program as it aligns with our school’s mission to nurture students holistically. This approach shows that the gaming industry can play a meaningful role in character building and digital discipline,” he said.
The event targeted more than 100 students from grades 10 and 11 at SMK Pusdikhubad Cimahi, along with representatives of parents and teachers. In addition to the talk show, the program included a Free Fire fun match between students and teachers to foster community connection through a shared gaming experience.
Garena Good Game in School is the first of a broader initiative designed to reach more schools and communities across Indonesia. In addition to this education program, Garena has also implemented several player protection features, including chat moderation, 24/7 player support, and a dedicated parental guide to help families understand safety and parental control aspects within games.
Garena also continues to promote positive in-game campaigns that encourage players to balance gameplay with daily responsibilities. One example is the Free Fire campaign with Habib Ja’far during Ramadan, which invited players to prioritize worship and acts of kindness. The campaign also introduced values of charity and sharing through in-game experiences.
In the esports space, Garena pioneered student-based tournaments that promote balance between gaming and academics through the Garena Youth Championship (GYC) Free Fire program, launched in 2024. Aimed at junior and senior high school students, this is the first esports tournament in Indonesia to require report cards as a condition for participation—emphasizing the importance of academic and esports achievements going hand in hand.
