Shopee Indonesia Collaborates with SMESCO and the Indonesian Ministry of MSMEs to Launch Two New Programs to Boost MSME Competitiveness

Indonesia, February 20, 2025 - Shopee Indonesia, in collaboration with SMESCO and the Ministry of MSMEs, has launched the "Anak Muda Bisa Ekspor" and "Sukses UMKM Baru" programs. Through "Anak Muda Bisa Ekspor," Shopee is offering training and mentorship to 18 MSMEs curated by SMESCO to expand their market reach via the Shopee Export Program. More than 700 products will receive special promotions on Shopee Indonesia’s Pilih Lokal page and Shopee Malaysia’s Ikon Fashion section, enabling them to reach millions of buyers. Additionally, Shopee is introducing the "Sukses UMKM Baru" program, which provides an initial incentive of IDR 2 million for each new MSME joining Shopee to help boost their sales immediately.

Deputy Minister of MSMEs of Indonesia, Helvi Moraza, emphasized that 6.1 million young entrepreneurs aged 20-29 have contributed to the business sector, playing a crucial role in driving Indonesia’s economic growth. “The ‘Anak Muda Bisa Ekspor’ initiative is a significant step in strengthening Indonesia’s creative industry ecosystem, enhancing its global competitiveness. The fashion sector alone accounts for an export value of $6,767.62 million or IDR 109,6 trillion,” stated Helvi. He also appreciated Shopee’s efforts in preparing MSMEs for global expansion through “Kampus UMKM Shopee Kelas Online”.

Special Envoy for Youth Development and Creative Workers, Raffi Ahmad, also attended the event, emphasizing the importance of integrating MSMEs into the global supply chain, “Shopee has demonstrated its commitment to supporting MSMEs, particularly amid shifting consumer behavior. Digitalization and innovation are key, and ensuring MSMEs understand digital transformation is essential. We must prevent them from being left behind; instead, they should be empowered to reach broader markets,” said Raffi.

CEO of SMESCO Indonesia, Wientor Rah Mada, added that "Anak Muda Bisa Ekspor" is a long-term program involving the Ministry of MSMEs (as the regulator), SMESCO (as the facilitator), and Shopee Indonesia (as the aggregator). The initiative aims to integrate more MSMEs into the export market, with Malaysia as the initial target before expanding to eight other export destinations.

Shopee Indonesia's Head of Public Affairs, Radynal Nataprawira, expressed Shopee’s enthusiasm in collaborating with the Ministry of MSMEs and SMESCO to expand the export potential of Indonesian MSMEs. "Through the Shopee Export Program, we have marketed over 50 million MSME products to various destinations across Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Latin America since 2019. This partnership marks another significant milestone, as more Indonesian MSME products will be available to international Shopee buyers. Our support for local products continues through the 'Shopee Pilih Lokal' channel, which saw a 200% increase in sales in 2024," said Radynal.

More than 700 curated fashion products from SMESCO are now available for Shopee buyers in Indonesia and Malaysia, including Muslim wear, sportswear, men's fashion, women's fashion, and children's fashion.

Moreover, Shopee and SMESCO have conducted a series of training programs for MSME fashion entrepreneurs to optimize their export potential. Through Focus Group Discussions and talk shows, MSMEs have gained insights into export access and fashion trends in Malaysia. These training sessions help MSMEs develop effective and relevant marketing strategies to attract more buyers from Malaysia.

Introducing the "Sukses UMKM Baru" Program to Support MSMEs in Starting Their Online Business
Reinforcing its commitment to empowering MSME entrepreneurs, Shopee also introduced "Program Sukses UMKM Baru", a support program for new MSMEs entering online sales on Shopee.

This new initiative provides key benefits for each new MSME joining Shopee, including free administration fees for the first 50 products sold, free XTRA Free Shipping service fees for the first 200 orders, and an IDR 1,000,000 store voucher to offer promotional discounts to buyers.

Additionally, during the Ramadan period (February 20 - March 31, 2025), new MSME sellers will receive IDR 75,000 in advertising credits and an additional IDR 1,000,000 store voucher to maximize sales during Ramadan.

"We hope that the new incentives from the 'Sukses UMKM Baru' program will help MSME entrepreneurs adapt and grow their businesses through digital platforms. The 'Shopee MSME Campus - Online Classes,' which provides a comprehensive curriculum for MSMEs free of charge, will also be expanded to reach more participants. We believe these initiatives will make it easier for MSMEs to thrive both locally and internationally. This is Shopee’s commitment to being a true partner in the journey of local MSMEs,” added Radynal.
