Indonesia, Aug 9, 2023 - In an event hosted by Shopee, 1,000 MSMEs across 10 cities in Indonesia participated in a simultaneous training session, marking the beginning of new opportunities for collaboration to help increase the export potential of local MSMEs.
The momentous event also showcased the tremendous potential for MSMEs to leverage the facilities at the Shopee MSME Campus and Shopee MSME Export Campus, strategically situated across 10 cities in Indonesia. This will enable more MSMEs from Solo, Bandung, Semarang, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Medan, Samarinda, Malang, Makassar, and Denpasar to participate in the same training, underlying Shopee’s mission to democratise opportunities and empower entrepreneurs across the country.
Shopee also introduced new training initiatives and programs to help unlock export market access for local MSME products, building upon the successful inclusion of over 20 million local products in the Shopee Export Program. These products are made available for purchase to buyers across regions like Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Latin America, further expanding the reach and global presence of Indonesian MSMEs. These programs include:
- Collaborations to strengthen MSME exports: Shopee welcomes other organizations to utilize facilities and leverage resources at the Shopee MSME Campus and Shopee MSME Export Campus across 10 cities for their own MSME training programs. Interested parties can contact the MSME Campus in their respective cities for registration and more information.
- Introduction of the 'Shopee Export Tutoring Program': This new initiative will provide intensive online mentoring for selected MSMEs who have completed training at the Shopee MSME Campus and Shopee MSME Export Campus to enhance store readiness and enable them to actively participate in Shopee's Export Program.
- Registration through the 'Choose Local' Shopee channel: This feature, launched on Shopee's app in 2022, will now allow users to register for training at the Shopee MSME Campus, Shopee MSME Export Campus, and Shopee Export Program.
"In line with Sea's commitment, we believe that fostering collaborative synergy among various stakeholders is key to achieving our collective goal of bolstering MSMEs, enabling them to establish a strong foothold in the global market,” said Kiky Hapsari, Director & Country Head of Sea Indonesia.
Shopee's pivotal role in elevating the competitiveness of local MSMEs, both on a domestic and international level, was also highlighted by Handhika Jahja, Executive Director at Shopee Indonesia, sharing that “over the past 2 years, we have witnessed a twofold increase in the number of trained MSMEs at the Shopee MSME Campus, while the export of MSME products consistently reaches millions of units each month. This has inspired us to create more accessible avenues like the Shopee Export Tutoring Program for MSMEs to learn and equip themselves for global expansion.”
"Shopee hopes that with the introduction of these new programs, more local MSMEs can proudly represent Indonesia on the world stage. In line with the commitment of #ShopeeForMSMEs, we aim to bring the best of Indonesia to the global stage," noted Jahja.
