Taiwan, July 13, 2023 – Shopee has launched the “Shopee Xpress Circular Packaging Program 2.0,” aiming to cut 2.4 million kilograms of carbon emissions by the end of the year.
Following the success of the previous program which helped to reduce 600,000 kilograms of carbon emission in just a year, the latest edition will feature more products eligible for the program, and is estimated to help reduce the use of over 400,000 cardboard boxes.
Shopee will be responsible for the logistics, recycling, and disinfection of the recyclable packaging, while offering additional subsidies to encourage sellers to adopt the use of circular packaging like box rentals and other related expenses. Using historical operational data, Shopee is also developing a range of box packaging sizes that fit various types of seller products
Shopee has also introduced a self-return feature for the recyclable packaging to all of its 100 smart parcel pick-up stations across Taiwan, to make the program more accessible for consumers. Consumers can then easily participate in the green movement through a simplified process: “Order, Bring Your Own Bag, Unbox and Return.”
Pauline Liao, Head of Brand Marketing at Shopee Taiwan, expressed enthusiasm for environmental sustainability, stating that the “Shopee Xpress Circular Packaging Program 2.0” aims to rally more than a thousand sellers by the end of the year, and effectively reduce packaging waste.
Shopee continues to improve Taiwan’s e-commerce ecosystem by fostering a more environmentally sustainable future.
