Garena supports students in Indonesia to succeed academically with up to Rp 200 million in education funds and scholarships

Indonesia, July 10, 2023 – Garena has announced the highly anticipated Garena Youth Championship (GYC) 2023, featuring a series of Free Fire tournaments running from July 10 to October 20, organized for high school students in Indonesia. The GYC 2023 is also Indonesia’s first esports tournament using set minimum academic grades as participation criteria.

With a total prize pool of Rp 200 million in education funds and college scholarships, GYC 2023 aims to promote academic excellence alongside gaming achievements. In addition, the 12 teams that advance to the final round will also receive educational scholarships from Universitas Terbuka, Garena’s partner for GYC 2023. As part of the Garena Goes to School (GGTS) initiative, the event also promises exciting collaborations, educational in-game events, and a chance for participants to proudly represent their schools.

“Through GYC 2023, Garena wants to invite players, especially those still in school, to excel both in the game world and in the academic world. With the aim of providing a positive gaming experience, Garena believes games and academics can go hand in hand and complement each other. Hopefully this initiative can inspire more players to be the best in school and on the Free Fire battlefield," said Hans Saleh, Country Head of Garena Indonesia.
